What is Leadership?

Leadership is comprised of a few basic ingredients.  To be a successful leader one must have passion, integrity, a natural curiosity and daring.

Leaders wonder about everything, want to learn as much as possible, are ready to take risks and try new things.  They do not worry about failure, but embrace errors, knowing they will learn from them.  To be succesful you must be step out into the unknown and expect the unexpected

A successful leader must be ready to work alone. Someone observed that is Moses went up the mountain with a committee, he never would have come back.  To be out in front means sometimes to be alone.  A leader must understand and accept this responsibility.  A leader welcomes feedback but after all the respectful talking, listening, debating and interacting is done, someone has to say, “This is what we are going to do.”  That’s a leader’s job

There must be more vacancies for more good leaders than any other job. Unfortunately there is a shortage of suitable candidates.

“Being out front means sometimes being alone.” Most of the time … it is lonely at the top.

Leadership is a choice… yet most studies indicate that only 5% are Leaders … is that due to choice or inability?

Gee, Shane, I did not realize that you and I seem to be the only consistent commenters … it is difficult to meaningfully comment on the same post yet it is good on Leadership.

As they say, leadership is a process by which a person influences others, and influence is the main point in evaluating this term.
